Messaging

Tag N Go's messaging lets you connect directly with a reporter to arrange a return, without exchanging phone numbers or emails in public. You'll need to be signed in to use it.

Starting a conversation

On any approved report that isn't your own, you'll see a button in place of the usual contact prompt (labeled "I found this item" or "This might be mine," depending on the report type). Write a short introductory message explaining why you think it's a match, and send it — this creates a request to connect.

Waiting for a response

Your request doesn't open a live conversation right away. The reporter has to accept it first — this protects reporters from unsolicited contact. While you're waiting, the conversation shows up under Messages with a note that you're waiting for a response.

If the reporter declines, that's final for that report — you won't be able to send another request on the same one. If they accept, the conversation becomes a live two-way chat immediately.

Once a conversation is open

Messages are delivered in real time — no need to refresh the page. Your Messages link in the navigation bar shows a badge with your number of unread messages across all conversations.

Responding to requests (as a reporter)

If someone requests to connect about your report, you'll see it under Messages. Open it to read their first message and choose Accept or Decline. Once accepted, you can chat back and forth freely.

Privacy note

Only you and the other participant in a conversation can read it. Moderators can view conversation content for safety/abuse review, but they can't send messages in a conversation they're not part of.
