Reporting an item

Starting a report

Click Report lost or Report found in the top navigation bar (you'll need to be signed in — see Creating an account if you're not). You can switch between Lost and Found at the top of the form at any time before submitting.

Filling out the form

FieldNotes
What is it?A short title, e.g. "Blue backpack" or "Set of house keys"
DescriptionAs much detail as helps someone recognize it — brand, color, distinguishing marks, contents
CategoryElectronics, Documents, Bags, Pets, Jewelry, or Other
PhotoOptional, but strongly recommended — a clear photo makes it much easier for the right person to recognize their item
LocationWhere it was lost or found
DateWhen it was lost or found
Contact preferenceEmail, Phone, or Either — lets people know how you'd prefer to be reached

Only one photo is supported per report. Whatever image you upload is automatically resized and optimized, so there's no need to shrink large photos yourself beforehand.

After you submit

Your report is created with Pending status — it's visible to you (on your dashboard) but not yet on the public board. A moderator reviews it before it goes live; if it needs changes, they may reject it with a note explaining why. See Managing your reports for what to do next.

A note on privacy

Avoid putting phone numbers, email addresses, or other personal contact details directly in the description — moderators check for this specifically, since your contact preference field is the appropriate place to signal how you want to be reached, and messaging is the safer way to actually exchange contact details once you're talking to a specific person.
